Netherlands: Converts to Christianity threatened

According to a recent article in Trouw (Dutch), Muslims who convert to Christianity have to deal with intimidations, threats and violence.

There are two issues in this article, and the article didn't really differentiate between the: Muslims who convert to Christianity, and Muslims who convert to Christianity and then do missionizing work among their former brethren.

So, for example, Vrezh (44), a converted Iranian who escaped to the Netherlands in 1992 is working as a clergyman and has since been receiving death threats saying “If you don’t stop evangelizing among Muslims, we will kill you”.

On the other hand, the article brings Ahmad (26) from Afghanistan, who says is father was killed by his brother because he was Christian. He claims to have been threatened in the asylum seekers center where he lives and to have been attacked. Muslims who convert are considered apostates and face the death sentence according to Muslim law.

According to Islam scholar Jan Slomp threats and violence are found more and more often in the Netherlands. There are several hundred converted Iranians that live in concealment. He tells of several Iranian Christians who had to go back to Iran and now live in hiding.

Ayhan Tonca, president of the CMO (Contact Body Muslims and Government, Contactorgaan Moslims en Overheid) was shocked by these stories and says that mosques in the Netherlands must deal with this issue.
