Denmark: 47,000 immigrant youth at risk of marginalization
A quarter of immigrants (1st generation and descendants) in the ages 0-29 from non-Western countries are in danger of being marginalized.
An alarmingly large number of children and youth of immigrant families from non-Western families live under social, economical and cultural conditions which put them at risk of being marginalized and set outside Danish society, reports today Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten.
This according to an extensive report prepared collaboratively by seven ministries. The analysis shows that 47,000 children and youth in immigrant families are in the the risk zone or are already marginalized. This means a quarter of immigrants and their descendants in the age groups of 0-29 from non-Western countries are in this risk group, while in comparison this only holds for a tenth of Danes in that age group.
According to the report, children and youth aged 0-15 are marginalizes or at risk of being marginalized if one of both parents are unemployed. Youth aged 16-29 are marginalized or at risk of being marginalized if they neither work nor study.
The report's summary says that the most extreme consequences are that marginalization would cause anti-social or criminal behavior - like the recurring unrest in Nørrebro
