Russia: Mosque fined for loud calls to prayer
The Prosecutor's Office of the Astrakhan region fined the head of the Astrakhan Cathedral Mosque for the disturbance of public peace and tranquility.
The regional Prosecutor's Office reported to Interfax that the Mosque located at the market place of Bolshiye Isady used sound amplifying equipment to call Muslims to prayer at 4 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., thus disturbing the public peace.
The Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service confirmed the fact of exceeding the generally accepted sound level.
The Prosecutor's Office commenced administrative proceedings against the Mosque and its head which held to impose a fine on the Mosque head and bound him to comply with the noise regulations.
