Netherlands: Turkish man attacked for complaining about annoying children

The generally quiet Turkish community in Zevenbergen (Netherlands) responded in shock after the beating of a 73 year old Turkish man last Saturday.

Chairman Bulent Demircelen of the Zevenbergen Turks Foundation says he's doing everything in order to maintain the peace among his followers.

73 year old Rustum U. was one of the first Turks to come to Zevenbergen in the 60s. His wife is sick and bedridden. Therefore it annoyed the couple when kids from the neighborhood rang their doorbell over and over. On Saturday afternoon Rustum caught one of the kids and asked the kid's mother if they can stop it. Fifteen minutes later, the father of the kid stopped by the U. family and without any explanation attacked the old man. He was brought to the hospital with a concussion, grazes and bruises. Demircelen warned the police that the issue can get out of hand.
