Brussels: Woman killed in attempted carjacking

The robbers were first described as 'immigrants'.  A couple of immigrants commented on this story that the press is giving them all a bad name, as the attackers were Moroccans.

A woman was shot dead during a carjacking in the Brussels suburb of Ukkel Friday afternoon.

Isham E. (24) and Hassan E, (20) first robbed a jewelry store using a fake gun.  The jeweler tried protecting himself with a gun, but in the struggle that followed they managed to disarm him, and then hit him on the head with it.  Following that they fled with some jewels.

They then tried to carjack a car driven by a woman.  They demanded she get out, and when she didn't do it fast enough, they shot her in the shoulder and then in the head, using the jeweler's gun.  Two unarmed police volunteers heard the shots, saw the men flee into a building, and managed to catch them when they tried leaving.

The woman, Frédérique Lévêque (46), a mother of three, was seriously injured, and died of her injuries in the hospital.

Isham E. (24) confessed he shot the woman.  Isham has no criminal record.  Hassan had been convicted as a minor.  Both work, one of them as a security agent for MIVB, the Brussels transportation service.
