Barely 11% of Turkish and Moroccan women (15 to 64 year olds) go out to work in Belgium, according to Belgian parliament member Annemie Turtleboom. Turtleboom sees several reasons: the language barrier, but also cultural elements. Many immigrants have a more traditional picture of society and by many, she’s sure, the woman is not allowed to go out.
Turtleboom wants to force women to make the choice – either they go out looking for a job, or they will lose their benefits.
