The Netherlands panicked when Piet-Hein Donner announced that it is possible to introduce Sharia in the Netherlands if two-third of Dutch citizens would prefer that. In Great-Britain, Islamic inheritance law is already accepted and 40% of British Muslims would like a complete application of Islamic law. In Germany a woman recently lost a case in court because the beatings she suffered at the hands of her husband was claimed to be due to her own choice to live according to Moroccan culture (and some would claim, the Koran). What is Sharia? What are the difficulties for Westerners? Is sharia-law by definition disadvantageous to women? Do Muslim jurists introduce Islamic law into Europe by fatwas?
