One in ten requests for mosque recognition in Wallonia had been declined (5 of 48). "We followed the advice of the State Security Service," explains Walloon minister of foreign affairs Philippe Courard. State Security veto applied especially to mosques in the Hainaut province and one in Liège.
60% of the "Turkish" mosques and 40% of the "Arab" mosques had been recognized. 80% of the mosques in the Walloon Brabant and Luxembourg provinces were recognized compared with 50% in Hainaut and 35% in Liège. There are currently 43 mosques in Wallonia.
