Göteborgs-Posten annually polls ninth graders in the city regarding their voting preferances.
----
Opinion polls show the Sweden Democrats getting about 4%, but among ninth graders they're getting 8%, an increase of 1% over last year. 4% of girls and 11% of boys support the party.
Henrik Oscarsson, lecturer at the Department of Political Science in Gothenburg University, says that Sweden Democrats often get more support in schools, particularly if the poll is not related to an election campaign, but that he doesn't expect all these students to vote for the party in 2010.
Among ninth graders of immigrant origin, 5% said they would vote for Sweden Democrats, this is a trend that Anders Dalsbro, editor of Expo, recognizes. He says people can see themselves as a proper immigrant but don't want more people who misbehave. They share the Sweden Democrat's notion that immigrants are a big part of our problems. He says it's important to remember that the Sweden Democrats are primarily against Muslims, and it's not completely strange that some people of immigrant origin share the party's opinions.
According to party secretary Björn Söder, the Sweden Democrats have nothing against having people of immigrant origin applying to the party. He says that those who support the party share it's opinion on the immigration problem and are critical of multiculturalism.
