Netherlands: Moroccan chosen student of the year
Rabia Bouzian, a 24 year old Rotterdam student was chosen "Student of 2009" by the Student Unions LSVb and ISO and the ScienceGuide website. She will be awarded by minister of education Ronald Plasterk (PvdA) Thursday afternoon.
Bouzian studies small business and retail management at Rotterdam University. In addition she guides VMBO students who want to reach further and fellow HBO students of Moroccan origin. This to help reverse the high drop-out rate among Moroccan students.
According to ScienceGuide, ISO and LSVb Bouzian shows that more can be done to prevent premature drop-out by students. "She concretely and personally deals with the problems," the three organizers of the contest said in a press release.
