Scotland: Mosque supports learning disability charity

A NORTH-EAST charity which supports children and adults with learning disabilities has been given a helping hand by members of the Moslem community through the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre.

The centre has donated £2,000 to Archway's Two Mile Cross unit, which offers respite care to more than 60 children and adults.

It is one of three respite centres run by the charity in Aberdeen, with a shared care unit and two permanent care homes which between them support about 200 families.

Mosque president Omran al Mahtot said he and fellow Moslems in the city were delighted to help plug the funding gap.

He said: "We are highly recommended by our faith to help all people regardless of their faith, race or background. Over the years we have supported many larger national and international charities, but this year we decided to focus on one working in the local community.

"Having found out what Archway does and how much help it gives to families and individuals with learning disabilities we are happy to be able to help."
