Paris: Is your child allowed to eat pork?

French news site LeJDD.fr published the following questionnaire (FR) from school cafeterias in Paris. One of the questions: Is your child "allowed to eat pork?"

One of the school officials explains that they need to know how many students eat pork for practical reasons. Some public schools have up to 40% of the student body who follow religious dietary laws, and the schools need to find substitutes on days when pork is on the menu.

Schools cannot offer 'religious' meals (kosher, halal), but starting in the 2000s, most of the Muslim regional council ensured that on days when pork is on the menu, non-pork meals will also offered.
