France: Teenager beaten up for not fasting on Ramadan

A teenager (17) who was beaten up by a family member for not fasting on Ramadan was discovered Sunday night tied up in an apartment in Miramas (Bouches-du-Rhône). Firefighters and police responded around 10pm, after neighbors heard moans and noticed a water leak from the apartment upstairs.
The emergency services found the young man inside, wrists and ankles shackled, showing signs of a beating, according to a source close to the investigation. The young man, a French citizen born in Algiers, said he was beaten for not fasting on Ramadan. He was certified by a doctor as incapacitated for work for 15 days.
According to RMC the teenager was beaten up by his brother. The family accused him of regular misconduct, such as consuming hashish. The family is considered 'very strict'
