Amsterdam: riots after knifing

A knifing in Amsterdam in which one man (27 years old) was killed caused riots in the city Wednesday night. Two people, ages 21 and 23, were arrested shortly after the knifing.

Big groups of Moroccan kids searched for Surinamese kids and besieged the police. They threw stones at policemen and broke windows. According to a police spokesperson, the kids suspect that the perpetrator was Surinamese.

The victim, whose identity was not released, staggered into a shop around 9 pm with various knife wounds. He was brought to a hospital but died of his wounds around midnight.

The police said they were doing all they could to calm down the riots.

A neighbor reported that 40 to 50 kids were besieging a house where a Surinamese kid lives. "They threw bricks from the street to the house. The police had to save the kid and take him away."

The Moroccan kids also besieged a Surinamese cafe in the street. A witness reported he heard windows being broken and cars were rammed. He said it was currently quiet but that the riots lasted two hours.

There were other reports of violence, though I'm not sure if it's the same as above or not:

A group of Moroccan kids forced the door of one residence open, broke in, searched the building and caused destruction. A 20 year old suspect was arrested.

By another residence, in which one of the knifing suspects was arrested, the police prevented the group from breaking in again.

That is in my neighbourhood, Amsterdam-East. I was walking home at the time 2 blocks away from where the riots took place and noticed nothing.
