A prosecutor on the French island of Corsica yesterday warned that the perpetrators of a gun attack on three youths of north African origin celebrating the end of Ramadan would be severely punished. "This is an act of inexcusable violence which will be severely punished when its perpetrators are found," Jose Thorel told a press conference. One of the trio was seriously injured late Friday after four shots were fired from a hunting rifle as the group marked Eid al-Fitr which ended the Muslim holy month of fasting. Police are treating the incident -- which they refused at this stage to qualify as racist -- as attempted murder.
