Brussels: Police accused of ethnic profiling
The Francophone movement against Racism, Antisemitism and Xenophobia (MRAX) lodged a complaint against the Brussels police for racism. The association says that during the pro-Palestinian demonstration the police inspected demonstrators with an 'Arabic appearance'.
On Jan. 21st, there was a protest against the arrival fo the Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to Brussels. According to witnesses, MRAX says that the police prevented people of Arabic appearance from entering the Schuman neighborhood [EU Quarter].
"Some were even arrested, while people with white skin could simply pass through," MRAX claims.
The ethnic selection enforced during the demonstration was a real humiliation for citizens of Arabic descent," says MRAX. "This is a violation of the discrimination law."
