Netherlands: Police and immigrants to fight robberies
Police and immigrant organizations in North and Central Limburg will work together to drive down the considerable number of armed robberies. "Shoulder to shoulder," said department head Bryan Rookhuijzen Friday, after consultation with Hubert Bruls, in charge of the regional police, and district attorney Nicole Zandee.
Bruls (mayor of Venlo) said he fully supported earlier statement by Rookhuizen that most perpetrators of armed robberies were young, non-White men. This statement led to indignation from immigrant organizations. "Such a statement should also lead to self-reflection of those who feel they're being addressed," Bruls rejected the blame that the police is stigmatizing certain groups.
