Flanders: 48% of Moroccans, 44% of Turks feel discriminated
The University of Hasselt has published a study about the situation of the integration process of Moroccans and Turks in Flanders. The researchers interviewed 960 people of Turkish, Moroccans and Flemish origin in the cities of Anterp, Ghent and Genk.
* 48,4% of Moroccan immigrants felt personally discriminated at least one time during the past twelve months. By Turks this was 43.7%. Remarkably also 33% of Flemings felt personally discriminated.
* 25% of Turks and 20% of Moroccans have a chat every day with the Flemish neighbor. 43% of the Flemings never talk with the Moroccans neighbor and 38% with the Turkish neighbor. According to the study, ethnic Flemings have a more negative image of Moroccans than of Turks.
