With the number of homophobic attacks rising in the Dutch metropolis, Amsterdam officials are commissioning a study to determine why Moroccan men are targeting the city's gays.
Amsterdam is considered one of the most gay-friendly cities in Europe -- and it has long flaunted it, with bars sporting provocative names like the "Cockring" snuggled comfortably within major tourist areas. Recently, though, gays and lesbians living in the city have begun to ask how safe they really are in one of the continent's greatest bastions of tolerance.
In 2006, the city registered 32 hate crimes directed at gays. During the first half of 2007, 26 had already been reported, including an attack perpetrated during the Dutch city's annual gay pride parade in August. The attack against a British gay couple generated headlines around the world in newspapers catering to the gay community.
This month, Mayor Job Cohen commissioned the University of Amsterdam to conduct a study on the motives behind the hate crimes. Half of the crimes were committed by men of Moroccan origin and researchers believe they felt stigmatized by society and responded by attacking people they felt were lower on the social ladder. Another working theory is that the attackers may be struggling with their own sexual identity.
Amsterdam is known the world over as a melting pot for people of every color and persuasion, but 20 percent of gays and lesbians responding to a recent poll said they had been discriminated against at least once in their life.

The mayor of Amsterdam is simply wasting his time on commissioning a "study," on anti-gay violence. he is avoiding ther real issue - that of militant Islam.
A good deal of Muslim youths in Western Europe have been, and continue to be, radicalized by Wahhabism, probably the most dangerous and radical form of Islam. Wahhabism, which comes out of Saudi Ararbia, seeks to dominate, then subjugate "Infidels" (all non-Muslims) and dominate the political, economic and religious lanscape of enture nations. Muslims are now outbreeding western populations of Europe, and the most popular boys name in Belgium for baby boys is Mohammed.
While we continue to hamstring ouselves with political correctness, multiculturalism, and having less children to sustain our ageing populations, Muslims are literally taking over Europe town by town, city by city, in their twisted fantasy of establishing a one-world Islamic state. There is only one answer to this situation: Stop all Muslim, immigration, place all radical mosques and their Imans under close surveillance, and get rids of those with criminal records.

I don't deny the threat of Wahhabism or the need to control immigration, but to correct what you write: Mohammed is not the most popular boy's name in Belgium, and is not close to being first. This is true in most other countries, besides the UK.
The issue of outbreeding is also not that simple, since 2nd and 3rd generation Muslims tend to have similar birth rates as non-Muslims. The reason for Muslim high fertility are the 1st generation immigrants, which keep on coming to Europe through marriage immigration.
