The Svendborg city council did not vote on a headscarf ban for girls under 18 yesterday. The person who submitted the proposal, Medhat Khattab, says that he saw before the meeting that his colleagues wanted to boycott the proposal and therefore he dropped it. The suggestion to ban headscarves in schools got support from the Social Democrats, Conservatives and Danish People's Party who want to bring it up in parliament. The Danish prime minister Rasmussen criticized the proposal and said that dress guidelines should be decided by every individual school and parents.
