The parents of a 9 year old boy in France had gone to court after their son was prevented from taking part in a television program because of his name "Islam", according to French newspaper Le Parisien.
The parents have Algerian citizenship and are Muslim. According to his mother, during casting for the popular children's show "In ze boite" they were told that his name represented a religion which isn't wanted in France. He was told to change his name to, for example, Mohammed.
Angels Productions, the production company, denies that Islam was turned away because of his name, but admits that casting employees had said things which could cause pain to a young kid. To make amends it has invited Islam for a future broadcast.
