A swimming pool in Culemborg organized a burkini fashion show Wednesday, attracting 60 women, many of whom were Muslim. The women responded positively to the burkini. One woman of Moroccan background said it was very pretty and also usable on the beach, either in the Netherlands or in Morocco.
A swimming pool in Zwolle kicked out a Muslim women in a burkini in February. The commotion caused by it brought the pool management to reverse their decision. This has brought the swimming pool in Culemborg to decide to organize a fashion show.
In the Culemborg pool they said many Muslims had come who otherwise wouldn't have done so. With a burkini Muslim women can swim with other people and don't need special opening times without men.
Alderman Roeland Geertzen says that the burka and burkini are the only way some Muslim women can walk outside. He thinks that in Culemborg there might be dozens of women who are kept indoors. You must support the emancipation process and that is done using the burkini., since now these women can also swim with other people.
The burkini costs 140-160 euros. One was sold in Culemborg on Wednesday.
