Netherlands: Islam Institute shuts down
The Islam Institute of the Dutch universities will finish functioning on January 1st of next year. The University of Leiden doesn't see sufficient financial possibilities for continuing on, the university announced Wednesday.
The International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World (ISIM) was founded ten years ago by the universities of Leiden, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Nijmegen, and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Because the ministry's subsidy expired, Radboud university (Nijmegen), the University of Utrecht and the University of Amsterdam pulled out.
