Belgium: Parliament to vote on burka ban

Update: Looks like it's not going to happen today.

The Belgian gov't is going through a coalition crisis but that will not prevent the parliament from voting today on a draft law banning face-covering veils.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch both urged the parliament to vote against the law.

"Bans like this lead to a lose-lose situation," said Judith Sunderland, senior Western Europe researcher at Human Rights Watch. "They violate the rights of those who choose to wear the veil and do nothing to help those who are compelled to do so."

I will post further updates as they occur.
