Oslo: Fear of the Islamization of Oslo

Anne Liv Gamlem is the Oslo leader for the conservative party Christian Unity Party (Kristent Samlingsparti). She says in an interveiew with iOslo.no that she is worried about "how fast the Muslim population in Oslo is growing".

"There were some American tourists I knew that were here ten years ago. They were surprised at how Muslim Oslo looked." she adds that with the politicians having allowed the immigration Norway has had, it has become what is has. "Those who have come here, they are here. I don't support sending anybody home again, but we must put Christianity in a high place. We must prevent a Muslim majority." It must be kept in mind when people see how fast that part of the population grows, she says in the interview which started off about Oslo police's weapon rights.

Additionally Gamlem thinks that the expansion of mosques in Oslo must be regulated:

"I have nothing special against a mosque looking like a mosque. But I think that a mosque's expansion must be regulated. In the past people in several circles talked of a mosque free zone. I don't think it's natural that mosque pop up at every corner. It shouldn't pop up everywhere. People shouldn't wake up to calls for prayer," she says.

About the call to prayer from the mosques, Gamlem has strong opinions:

"I was part of a action committee against Muslim calls to prayer and I continued against it. Sharia doesn't allow other religions to express themselves in the public space in the Islamic state. All prayers etc must be held inside the four walls of God's house. Forget about allowing expressions in the public space at all," she says.

The conservative Christian politician is afraid conservative Muslim politicians will get too much power. She says she's afraid that like somebody from the Islamic Council said in a debate with Carl I. Hagen on NRK: "if there will be a majority in Norway, he wants Islamic laws. Then non-Muslims will become second class citizens."

"I think that the Muslims should respect that this is a Christian country," she says explaining that she thinks there's a de-Christianizing of Norwegian schools.

I think religion should take a back seat, but I think the first priority is to explain to all muslims that some degrees of cultural isolation and expansion can not be expected to be accepted by the hosting country.

Islam is like a cancer. It will devour all other civilizations without even the need for terrorism (which can be seen as a sort of distraction from the real problem: outrageous birthrates among Muslims). A muslim majority means a Muslim country with Sharia law. It is as simple as that. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in fantasy world. Why does the left live in a fantasy world? Don't leftists know that they are threatened??

I was always one who hated muslims and stereotyped them exactly as they are potrayed by the bias media. My quest for guidance took me to undertake and study all the major religions of the world. After solid extensive research, my findings are - that the truth of Islam and its beauty are clear for every true seeker. I have become a Muslim (Aisha Melfort) by looking at Islam and its beautiful teachings and not by looking at the misguided Muslims of today.
There is no God except Allah and the prophet Muhammed peace be upon him was the last Prophet to humankind.
Peace to everyone who follows this guidance.

Actually, anonymous, that was not guidance you just gave, it was a command to recognize Allah and Mohammed as true. If Islam is true, can you tell me WHY it is true and beautiful? That is something no Muslim has ever been able to show me in a convincing manner. Instead, they seem content to say: but you MUST see that it is true and beautiful because the Koran, or whatever other authority, says this....

Christianity, on the other hand, clearly cares about showing people WHY it is true and beautiful. It has a long and elaborate tradition of reasoned intellectual argument to go in hand with faith. It teaches that everything the church believes can be defended in terms of natural law. In other words it give the anthropological justification for its leap of faith. Meanwhile, in Islam, the gates of Ijtihad, of reasoned struggle, are closed. And it is not the "misguided" who have closed them, in the sense that it is the mainstream, orthodox authorities who have closed them.

You boast about your "solid extensive reasearch" - let's see an example of it!

truepeers, I would request you (and everyone else) to be sincere and have a heart felt desire for the truth. We all have to leave this finite world one day, so lets ponder, wonder and think about what will happen after we die...

Islam is the belief in One God - Allah, the Creator of all things. Islam doesn't believe in the "middleman" fallacy as the case with many religions including Christianity. In Christianity, to be saved you have to believe in Jesus (peace be upon him) as the Son of God, and without such confession and belief in Jesus, you're most definitely going to Hellfire. Islam, on the other hand, declares that believing in One God, and that Muhammad is His messenger, and obeying God's laws and His prophet's doctrine is the only passport to Heaven.

This is exactly the same message bought by the previous propehts since Adam up to Jesus. Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them) were Muslims, since both had conveyed the very same Message - "Submission and surrendering" to the One True God.
Here is the proof from the Bible:
Moses said: ‘"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is ONE Lord."’ (DEUTERONOMY 6:4). Approximately 1500 years later Jesus said: ‘"...The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is ONE Lord." ’(MARK 12:29).
Of course Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) came along approximately 600 years later, bringing identical message again: «"And your God is ONE God: There is no God but He" »(The QURAN 2:163)

Aisha, or anonymous, you've told me what Muslims believe, something I basically already know. With all respect, what I'm curious to hear is why, after your "extensive research", you found the Islamic truth claim more true than the Christian or Jewish understandings of monotheism.

In other words, if you are going to compare Islam and the other two monotheims, and find one more true than the other two, where do you stand when you are making this judgment, where do you stand the moment before you make a committment to the one true religion? How can you know Islam is the truest, if you are only thinking in Islamic terms? How can you know Christianity is truest, if you are only thinking in Christian terms? How can you know Judaism is truest, if you are only thinking in Jewish terms? In other words, what is the position outside all three monotheims, from where we can judge among them? The only possible position is that of some kind of anthropology, of our own study of the human that we then use to ask which of these religions seems to have the closet understanding of the human, and which one furthers my understaning of the human in ways I find true?

You've told me that you think Islam is true. Can you tell me why YOU know it is true?

You call Christianity a "middleman fallacy". Why must it be a fallacy? Is it not possible that God, or his Being, relates to us, to our consciousness, in more than one way? Is it not possible that God, in order to teach us how to love him, allowed himself to become human to provide us a model of what it means to follow God?

Christianity's basic idea is that God is love. That seems to me a profound insight, one that is true in anthropological, human terms, because it seems clear to me that humanity, to be what it is, a being with freedom and change in history, must begin with love, not with submission (which must be secondary to love because true submission must be to something we love) or with resentment (something of which there is a lot, directed towards the nonbeliever, in the Koran). But I didn't start this to show anyone why I believe Judaism and Christianity have a lot of anthropological truth in them. I want to know how a Muslim knows there is truth in Islam, in her own words, without simply repeating the official dogma.

But as for that dogma, don't you think it's kind of presumptuous to believe that Judaism and Christianity are just perverted forms of Islam and that all the people in this world who follow those religions are just deluded followers of something that has been corrupted? Are all those Jews and Christians not capable of thinking for themselves and coming to see, with strong reasons of their own, that their faiths are true, or not? If you have respect for Jews and Christians as people with minds of their own, don't you have to engage them in a conversation about truth that does more than simply repeat the Islamic dogma that they are wrong and deluded?

Islam is the disease. We are the surgeons trying to cut out the disease. Islam is the truth in the same way that cancer is the truth.

hi my dears!

i am Eduart Thartori from Albania.
i can get a help for each of Anonymous and Truepees. if is accesible from you.
i am not with those who i s hatening Islam and nor with those who are extremely following it, without thinking. Islam is beautyfull because in Qouran the men can find all their answers in every field of the lifes.
these are not ideological words.
In Qouran we can find religion as well as science or humanity and arts. is not the same at the christianity or judaism. in each of them we can find only religious words or old ideology.(With my fully respect of each of the religions) in the Bibble "God" says than: The God created the light and when he saw tha the light is good named it light than was the first day. in the third or foruth day he created the Sun and the moon. So how can i belive that these are the Gods Words_?
Europe had a development from their reinasance from the church.
and muslim world had their economic and soccial problems when they made their "reinesance" from Islam.
so my dears Europe is near Islam because is near the democracy
and the muslim world is not so Islamic world because the democracy is placed with the dictature.
this is my opinion
my respects
Eduart
