Netherlands: Intern teachers visit Turkey

Why should the Turkish education system affect Dutch of Turkish origins? Do US teachers visit Mexico to know how to teach Hispanic kids born in the US?

Twenty intern teachers from Netherlands are touring schools in Turkey and gaining insight about the Turkish education system in order to provide better education to Turkish students in their country.

After their on site observations at schools in the Aegean city of Izmir, Dutch intern teachers and their supervisors visited Wednesday three elementary schools in the city of Mugla.

An assistant professor from the University of Mugla said they briefed their Dutch colleagues about the Turkish education system under a joint programme organized by two universities from Turkey and Netherlands as part of Erasmus programme.

Dutch educators who visited the classrooms and partook in classroom activities with the students, were surprised to see the computer and science laboratories in the village schools.

Anton Van Deursen, one of the Dutch educators, said these labs were a major leap in the Turkish education system and he was impressed by the level of communication between teachers and students.

Participating Dutch interns said this organization was very useful and they were aiming to establish healthier relations with their students of Turkish origin thanks to the insight they gained during these visits.
