Amsterdam: Not enough Christians, no Christmas party

Bus driver and tram personnel of the Amsterdam GVB company will not celebrate Christmas this year in garages, since there are too many immigrants working for the transportation company who aren't interested in the Christian holiday.

Employees union VTN (Union of Tram and Bus personnel Noord) were told by the VGB management that "the multicultural representation of the colleagues in the Christmas party is too one-sided", and that it's better to have other parties where all GVB employees can participate.

The drivers of Noord had been looking forward to the break, having been regularly threatened by neighborhood youth.

The VTN wrote a letter to its members saying that the Christmas party is a tradition and meant for all employees working out of the Noord garage. They had told GVB that the employees would not like it if the party would be scrapped.

GVB has meanwhile suspended sponsoring the Christmas party. Spokesperson Brit Wijkniet says that they have a limited budget and want to organize something for everybody, maybe a New Year's get together.
