St. Petersburg: Grenade attack on halal-food shop
St. Petersburg police say two people were wounded in an attack on a Muslim halal-food store near the city's central mosque today, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
A man and woman working at the shop were injured when a grenade was thrown inside the store. They were hospitalized with serious injuries.
The attackers, who were described as young men, escaped.
The St. Petersburg food store where two young men detonated a grenade earlier on Wednesday could have been a religiously motivated attack, a law enforcement source told Interfax.
"This shop is located 30 meters from the mosque's gates and sells halal food products," the source said.
