Belgium: Mandate of Muslim Executive not extended

Via HLN (Dutch):

Belgian Justice Minister Stefaan De Clerck says that the mandate of the Muslim Executive will not be extended. The Executive will continue to receive some subsidies in order ensure continuity, but will not start off new initiatives.

The body, which is supposed to represent Belgian Muslims, has not managed to get to an agreement on reforms. The discussions have been ongoing since 2008, when the Executive was tasked with developing a new structure (see here, here and here). At a last-minute meeting with the minister on Thursday it seemed that there was no willingness to talk further, and it was decided not to extend the mandate.

Future recognition of the Muslim Executive currently depends only on the Executive itself.
