Oslo/London: Muslim hip-hop

Poetic Pilgrimage is a London hip-hop group of two girls who converted to Islam three years ago. Though they sing about Islam, Poetic Pilgrimage say they don't intend to evangelize with their music.

Sukina Abdul Noor says they say they want to show another perspective of life. Everybody has a right to be portrayed justly, but Islam isn't portrayed justly in the media. They express their reality and want to show that Muslim women aren't chained to the kitchen.

Poetic Pilgrimage have appeared on the BBC and in several African countries, in both hip-hop events and in Muslim contexts.

The girls say that many are surprised when they first hear them. Munera Rashida says that many react with shock and try to understand what the girls after, but when they hear what they represent and see that they're peaceful people they appreciate what the girls have to say.

Poetic Pilgrimage will appear in Sofienberg park, Oslo on Saturday.
