Cairo: Russian, European Muslim students arrested in pre-Obama visit sweeps
According to one report, almost 200 Russian students were arrested.
Two Tajik and at least four Russian students arrested among 34 people in a sweep of a Cairo university this week have been released, officials said Saturday.
The Tajik Foreign Ministry said its ambassador in Egypt had confirmed its two students were free. RIA Novosti reported the four Russian students also were released.
Egyptian authorities have not revealed any explanations for the arrests at Cairo's Al Azhar University, in which students from Britain, Denmark, France, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as some Arab countries, were swept up.
Russian Vice Consul Yusup Abakarov told RIA Novosti that members of the Russian embassy in Cairo were trying to set up a meeting with the dozens of students still being held.
