Riga: Muslim Danish politician threatened before gay parade
Danish SF politician (Socialist people's Party) Kamal Qureshi had to flee in a taxi when he was threatened before the gay parade, which took place later in the day (Friday) in Latvia's capital, Riga.
Together with colleague Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen of the Red-Green Alliance party, Qureshi agreed to Amnesty International's request to monitor Baltic Pride, where last year participants were attacked.
Kamal Qureshi says that he was drinking cola with a friend when he was approached by two guys.
"This is our land, we will beat the homosexuals, we were told. When we wanted to go, two guys followed us and soon after an additional two. We therefore hurried to get into a taxi and drive to our hotel," recounts Kamal Qureshi, who feared for the rest of the day's gay parade.
