Netherlands: Police complains about nationality debate

The council of police chief commissioners is not happy with the debate about multiple nationalities.  It would discourage immigrant candidates and cause immigrant police agents to leave the police.

Bert Poelert from the Gelderland police said in an interview that the debate about holding two passports can lead to a discussion about integrity and with that cause damage for the mixed structure of the corps.

If immigrants think their integrity and loyalty is in doubt, then can decide not to work for the Dutch authorities.  And that, when the police has trouble to recruit immigrants.  About 6% of all police agents in the Netherlands are of immigrant origin.  Many of them from Moroccan and Turkish origin.

The council sent out an email to all police departments to make sure that there is no discussion about double loyalties within the police.
