Denmark: Criminal Iraqis released
They were planned to be unwillingly put on a plane to their homeland, but instead five Iraqis will now be set free in Denmark.
The five were sentenced for crime in Denmark, but Iraq refused to take them, and the Danish authorities had no other option than to release them, reports Politiken.
According to deputy police chief Hans-Viggo Jensen, head of the foreigner division of the national police, since before Christmas it was still not possible to say how they would be deported, they saw no other option but to set them free.
The five men are the last of 13 Iraqi criminals which Iraq agreed to take back in May of last year. Eight were sent back to Iraq while the last five may for now stay in Denmark.
