Gothenburg: Six Youths in Forced Marriages

Last year, at least six youths from the Gothenburg area were forced into marriage against their will, newspaper Göteborgs-Posten writes. Five girls and one boy were married off; three of the girls were eighteen years old, while two girls and the boy were underage.

The forced marriages of the youths, who had roots in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Balkans, were common knowledge at their schools.

Forty girls from Gothenburg lived in protected housing last year because of threats of forced marriage.
