Belgium: Muslim Executive to get increased subsidy

Parliament Member Ben Weyts (N-VA) asked Justice Minister Stefaan De clerck yesterday [Wednesday] in the justice parliamentary committee why he increased the subsidy to the Belgian Muslim Executive (EMB) from 150,000 euro to 200,000 euro, "while the operation of the executive is still faulty."  the minister answered that the executive will reorganize, reports Weyts.

De Clerck admitted that there were problems in the past years with the activity of the Muslim Executive.  But the EMB still functioned as far as Muslim teachers, Muslim consultants in penitentiaries and the recognition of a number of mosques.  "For which purpose financial means are also necessary," according to De Clerck.  The means will only be granted after the EMB submits a financial plan, according to the minister.

The Muslims were asked to formulate proposals regarding a reorganization of the Executive.  De Clerck will meet with the Executive about this issue in the near future.
