Iceland: First Immigrant in Hafnarfjördur Town Council

As far as I've managed to understand, Tamimi is a Palestinian Muslim (source). Hafnarfjördur is a suburb of Reykjavík.

----

Foreign-born vice-councilmember for the Social Democrats in Hafnarfjördur Amal Tamimi took a seat on the town council on Tuesday. This is the first time that an immigrant has become a councilmember in Hafnarfjördur.

Tamimi said she had been nervous but that everyone had been happy to have her join the council, Fréttabladid reports.

At the meeting, Tamimi proposed that a specialist would be hired for being in charge of immigrant issues in Hafnarfjördur and to establish better connections with Althjódahús, the Intercultural Center in Reykjavík.

Her proposal is being considered.

Strange, isn't it Jeeves? Call a chap by his religion he wouldn't think much of it?

Indeed, sir.

"Hey, Muslim" or "What ho, Christian", "Toodle pip, Hindu", or even "Ahoy there, Buddhist".

One perceives it as such, sir.

Yet, bally old thing, what. If you say, "Excuse me, Jew", the fellow gets upset!

One can only presume it is a manifestation indicative of an acute inferiority complex, sir. Will you be dining in tonight?
